Research Project 1:
Overall Universal Value (OUV) of Georgetown: Surviving Covid-19
Commencement Date: July 2021
OUV of Georgetown, Penang: Surviving Covid-19 is a research project selected by the Korean National University of Cultural Heritage under the UNESCO Chair Research Grant and is leaded by two of my lecturers,
Assoc. Prof. Sr Dr. Lim Yoke Mui (School of HBP, USM) and
Assoc. Prof. TPr Dr. Khoo Suet Leng (School of Social Sciences, USM)
Being the research assistants of this research project, my tasks include
i. Preparation of Google Survey Form
We had made use of the Google Form as the main platform for data collection. From the pilot survey to the translation of original version to several languages, this marks the beginning of my involvement here.
ii. Data Collection
Initially, we had spread out the Google Form virtually and received a total of 150 responses due to the Movement Control Order in Malaysia. Fortunately, after the MCO, we managed to conduct the site visit to the main zone of Georgetown Penang for another 100 responses as an extended survey for this research project.
iii. Transcription
Collecting the quantitative responses aside, Prof Lim and Dr. Khoo had conducted the interview session with several respondents. So, my job here is to transcribe the oral into text as this transcription would then be the primary data for this research project.
iv. Data Analysis
I had also helped in sorting the data collected and produced the table for the data.
v. Have Fun
Ever since the first day I am helping with this research project, Prof Lim would just tell me, enjoy and have fun. And yup, there's a lot of fun completing all the tasks provided. This is no doubt one of the amazing buds of my research journey, and yes, igniting me to go for master and PhD program after my degree.
